Excursions
Lake Bolsena
Casa Vasalone has approximately 100 m altitude difference to the Lake Bolsena. To get there, you need *** 50 mins by foot and about 10 mins by car. Swimming is possible from May/ June to October, the water quality is pretty good. There are very nice beaches which are suitable for children as well.
Isola Bisentina
Isola Bisentina is one of the two isles in the Lake Bolsena, has a rich historical past and luxuriant vegetation. From Bolsena you can get to the isle by boat, which leaves twice a day and includes a guidance. Longer trips with a boat are possible, too.
The warm springs of Saturnia
Just one hour from Casa Vasalone you can enjoy fine, all-season outdoor bathing in the sulphureous water, some 30 degrees Celsius.
On the way, do notice the amazing villages of Pitigliano and Montemerano.
Rome
For the distance of ca. 120 km you need for about 2 hrs by car. A good alternative: drive to Orvieto, leave the car at the railway station and take the train to Rome (about 1 hr).
Florence
The distance is ca. 230 km, taking about 2,5 hrs driving time (by motor way). Again, we recommend to leave the car at Orvieto railway station and tale the train to Florence (about 2 hrs).
Siena
For the 100 km distance it takes 2 hrs by car, or just change in Orvieto.
The Mediterranean Sea
It takes for about 1 hr for the 45 km distance to the Italian west coast by car. Very beautiful sand beaches, the water quality is – depending on which beach you chose – good to very good.
The Isle Giglio
This isle lies in front of the Monte Argentario in the Tyrrhenian Sea. You can easily get there with the ferry from Porto S. Stephano, which is some 1,5 hrs from Gradoli by car. The ferry takes ca. 1 hr. A nice trip to Giglio deserves a day. Also the quality of the Sea is perfect.
Sculpture garden by the artist Niki de Saint Phalle
This is a beautiful garden, “a dialogue by sculpture and nature, a place to dream”. It is located at the Via Aurelia and takes for about 1 hr by car.
